Also known as peripheral neuropathy, neuropathy is a medical condition resulting from damaged or destroyed nerve cells that can cause numbness, weakness, and tingling or burning pain. Neuropathy affects the nerves of the peripheral nervous system and can be inherited or acquired through medical conditions such as diabetes, chemotherapy, kidney failure, or autoimmune diseases. When neuropathy is a side effect or caused by other medical conditions, treatment is tailored first to treat the underlying condition which then reduces the severity of the nerve pain.
We understand how unpleasant neuropathic pain is which is why we are proud to provide a comfortable, family-friendly office atmosphere for our patients. Our helpful, professional staff are here to help you manage your pain and help treat any underlying conditions.
At Varai Chiropractic we often recommend compression sleeves to our patients struggling with neuropathy. Compression sleeves are typically a great option for patients when managing the sometimes painful symptoms of neuropathy, as they provide adequate pressure to help support the extremities and vessels inside them. They are not only helpful to managing discomfort, but they are also helpful in promoting healthy blood flow in the affected areas.
During your consultation we will discuss your specific symptoms so we can create a customized treatment plan to work best for you. Though neuropathy cannot be cured, we look forward to helping you manage your condition so you can live the best life possible. Infrared (Red Light) Laser Therapy
At Varai Chiropractic we take pride in helping our patients experience relief from the symptoms of neuropathy, and that includes staying on top of the latest technologies and treatments. Regardless of whether your symptoms are the result of infection, injury, or chronic conditions such as autoimmune disease or diabetes, we can customize a treatment plan to your specific needs. One effective treatment option that has been proven to help improve symptoms of nerve pain is infrared light therapy.
Infrared light therapy helps promote the production of nitric oxide throughout the body to signal your arteries to relax, which in turn helps regulate blood pressure, prevents platelets from becoming clumped together, and fights “free radicals.” This therapy is proven to help improve blood flow while increasing oxygen nutrients which aid in pain relief and treating damaged nerves.
Some of the conditions that infrared light therapy can help treat include but are not limited to:
- Local nerve pain
- Diabetic neuropathy
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Non-diabetic neuropathy
- Idiopathic neuropathy
- Facial nerve problems
- Nerve pain resulting from chemotherapy
- Nerve pain resulting from hypothyroidism
- Lyme disease
- Multiple sclerosis
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
This form of therapy allows for quick pain relief and a speedy healing process. For many patients, this therapy is most effective when used as a long-term treatment option. In some cases, pain and numbness may be drastically reduced or even disappear completely with consistent treatment. At Varai Chiropractic, we are happy to offer our patients Shockwave therapy as an additional non-invasive option for treating chronic pain. Shockwave therapy works by emitting an acoustic wave through a handheld device into areas where you are experiencing pain. The high energy produced by the device reaches deep into your tissues, tendons, and bones to promote regeneration and the natural healing processes of your body.
Some of the conditions we can treat with Shockwave therapy include:
- Jumper’s knee
- Shoulder pain
- Tennis elbow
- Heel spur
- Insertional pain
- Chronic tendinopathy
- Medial tibial stress syndrome
- Hip pain
Shockwave therapy is non-invasive and can provide immediate relief from your painful symptoms. During the appointment, our doctor will locate the area to be treated by palpating. After the pain is isolated, a gel will be applied to the area, which helps to transfer the acoustic waves through the tissue. Once a sufficient amount of gel is applied, the Shockwave applicator is gently pressed to the treatment area, and treatment can begin. Treatment generally lasts about five minutes.
During treatment, you may feel minor discomfort depending on the severity of your pain. If it becomes too uncomfortable for you, please let your doctor know so that the intensity can be adjusted. Afterward, we recommend you refrain from activities that may irritate the treatment area for 48 hours. Depending on your particular condition, we recommend between 3 and 5 treatments, which are done 3-10 days apart.

MATRIX System™ (software version 1/1.0)
We sought the input of experienced medical practitioners and combined their ideas with advanced technology, resulting in a carefully planned and state-of-the-art medical pain management system designed for physicians.
The MATRIX System is user friendly and is programmed to deliver the precise dosage to treat your pain patients with the push of a button. Dynamic medical specialties, like Clinical Pain Management, have seen a significant change in their therapeutic approach over the past decade by implementing this technology.
The MATRIX System has 40 computer-assisted programs with the most advanced technology using specific pre-programmed software algorithms to bioelectrically trigger 3 different physiological mechanisms of actions. Frequency ranges from .01-250 pps,(with the ability to effect the nerves by stimulating or facilitating), but also using a High Definition frequency generator (HDfg)™ that can produce much higher frequencies (or pulses per second) from 5,000 pps, 8,300 pps to as high as 10,000 pps to inhibit (interrupt) the pain signals.
